The Cerberus Project

Current Performance of the Project

Currently, the Cerberus project is performing very well. Standard frame rates across the cluster are clocking near 16-17 frames per second. It is very important to note that this is NOT the degree to which the project was hoped to perform at.

The critical ethernet bottleneck is really the only current project dependent piece of the puzzle that is missing. Without upgrading all of the internal ethernet infrastructure, there is no way that the project will see any greater performance than it currently does due to this limitation.

However, that being said, the current performance of the project was not always so. When the project kicked off and initial tests were run, general performance was no greater than 4fps. This was simply not acceptable, as commodity laptops running proprietary SONY software could operate in the same performance range. This became a long, ongoing process to attempt to squeeze as much performance from the system despite its current limitations.
